Frogs Leap Chardonnay 2008, Napa Valley

Frogs Leap Chardonnay 2008, Napa Valley

Optimum 2010 - 2014

Fresh and vibrant, the 2008 Frog’s Leap Chardonnay (from Carneros sites) abandons contemporary trends of big oak and butter for crisp acidity and a bright finish. Aromas of pear and white peaches are layered with delicate notes of honeysuckle and peach blossoms.

The Gimblett Gravels is a unique sub-region of Hawkes Bay. Some of the very first vineyards at Trinity Hill were planted here in 1987 and led directly to recognition when the first wines were made from the 1997 vintage. By 2001 this sub-region had become so well respected that the wines sourced exclusively from it could be labeled ‘Gimblett Gravels’, something akin to the French AOC system. Each case includes 2 bottles of the various Gimblett Gravel wines.

Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2008, Hawkes Bay

Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2008, Hawkes Bay

Drink 2011 - 2018

The colour of the 2008 is a deep, vibrant crimson. Blackberry, black pepper, savoury and spice elements are prominent. Multi-layered complexity is the aim. Powerful but ripe and round tannins give the wine great structure. Oak aging plays a minor part and the wine lives on its fruit. Combined with good acidity, mineral, earthy and tarry characters result in a wine that is distinctly Northern Rhone-like rather than resembling any thing Australian.

Trinity Hill Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2008, Hawkes Bay

Trinity Hill Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2008, Hawkes Bay

2010 - 2012

Hand picked fruit from the Gimblett Road vineyards goes into this blend, great quality is gently whole-bunch pressed to encourage low phenolic pickup and elegance. Only the highest quality free-run juice is selected. This helps to improve the texture and aging ability of the wine. 100% of the juice was fermented and aged in 29% new French oak barriques with the rest being fermented in 1 and 2-year-old barriques. Less than 10% malo-lactic fermentation was used, to retain the as much of the pure Chardonnay character as possible. Lees aging and regular stirring was used to increase complexity and mouth feel.

Drink 2010 - 2013

Each grape variety was harvested and vinified separately.  The blackberry and black pepper nuances of Syrah, the leather and plum aromas of Merlot and the lifted red currant character of Cabernet Franc have combined to produce a complex, fruit dominated wine. The oak aging has added a further dimension to the wine without being obvious. Its richness with firm, ripe tannins make this wine extremely serious yet eminently drinkable.

Drink 2010 thru 2011

As with most of France the Loire Valley has produced some awesome 2009s.  Cuvee GC is one of the most famous vineyards in Sancerre, producing some intense and remarkable wines. The combination of this great site and the expertise of the JMR team has resulted in a fruity, intense wine that is full, complex and elegant. This wine is rightly considered as one of the greats of the Loire. 'When growers picked at the right time and got elegance and finesse, and avoided overripeness and too much alcohol, the wines were glorious'. Margaret Rand, Decanter Magazine Sept 2010.

Joseph Drouhin Saint Veran 2008

Joseph Drouhin Saint Veran 2008

Enjoy 2010 - 2012

In a way the Drouhin St Veran is one of the Drouhin wines we get most excited about. It’s a wine you taste and it just makes you smile. It’s quite full, so stylistically not a million miles from Pouilly-Fuisse. The aromas are elegant and very chardonnay-driven, and the mouth-feel/viscosity us excellent. Very traditional but all the better for it.
