Cotes du Rhone CLAVIN Domaine Vieille Julienne 2007

Cotes du Rhone CLAVIN Domaine Vieille Julienne 2007

2011 - 2018

One of the truly great names of Cotes du Rhone, the Clavin vineyard situated around the house was the first to be planted on the estate and so has the oldest vines. With an average age of 70 years, it is suspected that some are a generation older. "Quite simply the finest Cotes du Rhone I've ever tasted" Ed Wells.

Domaine Henri Delagrange Aloxe-Corton Les Caillettes 2005

Domaine Henri Delagrange Aloxe-Corton Les Caillettes 2005

Drink 2005 - 2013

For several generations the domaine has focused on Volnay and Pommard but in 2004 Didier began leasing a small parcel of vines from a long standing family friend, a parcel he has since purchased. These vines are at the foot of the hill of Corton in the vineyard named ‘Les Caillerettes’. Aloxe-Corton is a region that excels in sunny vintages and due to the elevated vineyards it drains very well. Upon tasting this wine we were immediately struck by how powerful the young wine was and how the finish kept evolving on the palate.

Domaine Henri Delagrange Pommard Les Vaumuriens Hauts 2006, Burgundy

Domaine Henri Delagrange Pommard Les Vaumuriens Hauts 2006, Burgundy

Drink 2010 - 2016

Didier Delagrange has inherited some of the best situated vines in Pommard.  Coupled with hand-made bespoke winemaking skills from Didier (a leading figure in the rejuvenated heartland of the Cote d’Or) these vines are making very impressive wines.  Les Vaumuriens Hauts is an AOC Village vineyard with Premier Cru aspirations. It is at the uppermost slope of the cote above the village of Volnay and benefits from very old vines and soil that produces 1st class grapes, even in the driest of Burgundian vintages. The mercurial weather patterns in 2006 suited this site and Didier produced small quantities of excellent Pommard.

Domaine Latour-Labille Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2007, Burgundy

Domaine Latour-Labille Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2007, Burgundy

Drink 2010 - 2013 +

The 2007 cuvee maintains the ‘Charmes’ tradition of being the most opulent, complete and generous of Meursault wines. The vintage dictates a finer, more linear style of Meursault than, say, 2005 and 2006, perhaps more like a Puligny-Montrachet?

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Blanc 2006, S. Rhone

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Blanc 2006, S. Rhone

2010 - 2013

The Coudoulet de Beaucastel wines are made just outside of the Chateauneuf du Pape boundaries and are officially, therefore, Cotes du Rhone.  They offer excellent value to those in the know. The 2006 is a much fancied vintage from this producer.

Marmesa Cabrillo Peak Pinot Noir 2007

Optimum 2009 to end 2011

For too long Californian wine in the UK has been split between two extremes. At one end of the scale there are the top wines that are extravagantly priced and available in tiny quantities, and at the other there are the big brands selling gallons of inexpensive sugary-sweet rose. That left a very large gap in the middle for someone to produce high-quality, value for money Californian wines at an affordable price. That someone is Marmesa’s Larry Brooks!

D'Arenberg D'Arry's Grenache Shiraz MAGNUM 2006 McLaren Vale

D'Arenberg D'Arry's Grenache Shiraz MAGNUM 2006 McLaren Vale

2010 - 2016 +

The 2006 d’Arry’s Original Shiraz-Grenache is dark ruby-colored with an alluring bouquet of cherry, blueberry, earth notes, and smoked meat. This is followed by a structured wine with ample savory, spicy black cherry and blueberry flavors, good balance, excellent concentration, and a lengthy finish. The d’Arenberg portfolio is loaded with value”. 89/100 Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Meerea Park Hell Hole Hunter Valley Semillon 2007

Meerea Park Hell Hole Hunter Valley Semillon 2007

2011 - 2022 +

“Immaculate expression of variety and region. Typicity up to its gills - and a single vineyard wine to boot. I'm in the midst of writing a book called (provocatively?) Why The French Hate Us: The Real Story of Australian Wine- and it's wines like this that I'm going to ram forward. This is pure, piercing, lingering and lovely. It's cutely zesty and acidic, as a wine of this quality should be. It will be gorgeous in ten years - as, with oysters, it is gorgeous right now”. Drink: 2008-2019. 95 points. Campbell Mattinson – The Wine Front – July 2007.

Chateau du Gaby 2005 Canon-Fronsac

Drink 2010 - 2018

Our notes praised the great balance of this wine, exceptionally soft flavour profiles and great, enticing finish. It’s drinking quite well now but will probably not peak for 2 – 3 more years and will continue to develop over at least 8 more years.

Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2002, Barossa Valley

Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2002, Barossa Valley

Great until 2020 +

Still very lively and fresh showing good citrus notes also hints of macadamia nut characters and beginnings of a light smokiness as a consequence of bottle development. Still a remarkably tight, zesty and youthful wine with a superb structure and length. Time in the bottle has deepened the lime citrus and honey dew fruit flavours which fill out the mouth while finishing clean and dry.
