America has been producing wine for over 300 years with grape vines grown in all fifty states. With more than 1,100,000 acres (448,980 ha) under vine, the United States is the fifth most planted country in the world after France, Italy, and Spain - bearing in mind 90 percent of the wine that is produced - and consumed in this vast country, is from the State of California. Other parts of America such as; Washington State, Oregon, Texas and New York State produce wines of excellent quality not only on in the domestic market but globally as well.
