La Rioja Alta is widely recognised to be one of the finest wineries in the Rioja region. The estate has a history dating back over 100 years with the accumulated experience and knowledge being passed down through the generations and translated into the wines of the estate. The heartlands of La Rioja Alta are in the finest sites of the Rioja Alta region, with a further four wineries located in Spain's most renown DOs.

The 2007 Alberdi is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Mazuela (Carignan). From vineyards in Rodezno and Labastida.

Fermented with natural yeast, it spends one year in American oak before going into third-use barrels.

Medium-bodied, elegant and balanced, the wine keeps its power of fruit through the subtleness of aging.

The benchmark for old school Rioja, drink now through 2018
Tasting Note: Bright cherry red, with a medium robe and light pinkish highlights in the glass. Intense, very fresh aroma, with hints of wild strawberries and sweet raspberries, perfectly assembled with balsamic hints of cinnamon, roasting, coconut and vanilla. Round and well-bodied to the palate, slightly acid and therefore lively. Smooth, silky tannins, thanks to perfectly ripened grapes and ageing in the cask. Good, slightly acid and fresh after.
La Rioja Alta has tremendously improved its wines in the last few years while keeping faithful to the most classical style. They have always been hugely popular in Spain, but they seem to be selling their wines faster and don’t produce every cuvee in every vintage and as a result had very few new wines to show. Vina Ardanza jumped from 2001 to 2004, and the next vintage will be 2005. Followers of traditional Rioja are very lucky as both the 904 as the 890 coming on the market are from great vintages and are superb.

La Rioja Alta

This was the beginning of a fascinating business venture where the dream of the founders was to craft and age high quality wines. In 1891, the company changed its name to "La Rioja Alta".

The company still has enormous respect for the history and the original philosophy, which is still evident in how the wine is made today.

The vineyards are located in the finest sites of the Rioja Alta area and 360 hectares of limestone soil are planted with Tempranillo and Graciano vines. Established in 1890, La Rioja Alta owns 360 hectares of Tempranillo and Graciano vines in the finest sites of the Rioja Alta region. The estate also owns a separate 63 hectares of Garnacha in the warmer Rioja Baja appellation, which will be used specifically in the Ardanza blend once the vineyard has reached maturity.

The Estate produces 3 Reservas and 2 Gran Reservas, as well as the unique Marques de Haro wine that is the passion of the winemaker, Julio Sáenz.
